Photography Class 3

For my third photography class, I did a project investing the roles of tattoos or other body art on campus. Unfortunately, for legal reasons I can't show the project online, but the project will be displayed in the Olin Arts Center on campus for six weeks starting April 27, 2015. The project displays 38 photos of 34 students from Bates College that have some body art. My intention with this project was to show the community that body art is beautiful, can tell you a lot about someone, and gives you a more in-depth and personal feel to a generic portraits. My hope was that I could convey each person in an interesting and unique way just like their personality and tattoo. Everything from the facial expressions to the clothing and the tattoo or tattoos make each student stand out as a unique individual. The other point I was trying convey with my project is that tattoos are becoming more of a norm and should not be still held to the stigmatism of other generations. My hope was that my project shows that tattoos are all around us and people who you would never expect may have one or a couple for their own personal reasons, but just because they have some body art does not mean you should judge them any differently.
